Our Vessel

The vessel used for enforcement and marine environmental monitoring in the Isles of Scilly is the ‘Matt Lethbridge’ named in honour of the man whose persistence in the late 1960s led to the creation of the Isles of Scilly Sea Fisheries District in 1970.

The vessel is a new Humber 7m Ocean Pro and was commissioned to be fit for purpose for its role in Scillonian waters. The old Isles of Scilly Sea Fisheries Committee received a 100% grant from Defra to purchase the vessel from a Transitional Funding stream to enable the islands to be prepared for the formation of the Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority.

The vessel is powered by twin Yamaha 80hp four-stroke outboards giving a top speed in excess of 30 knots. The vessel has a permanent deep water mooring in St. Mary’s harbour, but when out of the water, the vessel is kept on a four-wheel trailer ready for quick deployment.
