Harry Legg
Councillor
Harry grew up on St Agnes and has been fishing commercially for lobster and Crawfish since returning from university in 2008. He has worked with the IFCA for years, notably on the lobster tagging project. He was elected to the IFCA by the Council of the Isles of Scilly after joining the Council in 2017.
Steve Watt
Councillor
Steve was a commercial fisherman working nets, pots and long-lines before joining the council in 1988. In 1989 he was given the responsibility for sea fisheries that was deemed to be a part-time role until it became the full-time post of Chief Fisheries Officer in 2011 when the IFCA was formed. Since retiring in 2016 he became a Councillor.
Jules Webber
(Natural England)
Jules is a Marine Lead Adviser in the Natural England Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Area Team. Jules joined Natural England in 2002 and works on marine conservation advice, condition assessments, nature recovery projects at sea, monitoring and evidence and marine development and fisheries casework. Jules lives in West Cornwall and is happiest when in or on the ocean.
Emily Theobald
Emily is the Principal Marine Officer at the Marine Management Organisation.
Welcome from the Chairman
We are proud of our long seafaring and fishing heritage here on the Isles of Scilly. These are islands where the sea is part of our daily lives – boats are bringing children to school and ferrying people across our five main islands every day. Our natural environment –the beaches, seals, seabirds and the unseen beauty of our deeper reefs are our key assets.
Through the season we see people coming to enjoy spending time on the Isles of Scilly, and we know that many of them are here to experience seabirds, seals and underwater landscapes that are amongst the best in the UK.
Our IFCA is made up of a mixture of fishermen, local Councillors and people with diving and marine environmental expertise. Together we share a responsibility to ensure that we can harvest from the sea, develop our economy yet protect our environment at the same time. We strike this balance through carefully weighing up the different uses and benefits, and the continued health of our environment and healthy shellfish catches speaks for itself. We are not complacent though, we always seek to understand more about what is going on in the seas around us, and continually asking questions about what we need to do better.
